It is hard to believe that July is almost over and VBS is upon us! It is always a tiring whirlwind of a week, but it is also a week full of blessings as we minister to children from throughout the community. At SBC, we strive to follow Christ’s example of caring for the physical and spiritual needs of children. In Mark 10, people were bringing children to Jesus, but His disciples started rebuking them. Jesus was not pleased with His disciples’ actions and said to them, “Permit the children to come to Me; do not hinder them; for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all,” (v. 14-15). Here, Jesus tells us that we have to have child-like faith to enter the Kingdom of God, a faith that gladly trusts in our Heavenly Father. But there is a difference between having child-like faith and childish faith.
In Hebrews 5:12-14, the author seemingly chastises his readers, saying: For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant. But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil. So as we observe the young ones during VBS (and beyond), let us be reminded to have an exuberant child-like faith, but also a faith that is continually growing and maturing in the Lord.
Blessings,
Pastor Zach
